Parliamentarians for Global Action Sustainable Development and Population Internship

Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) is an international membership organization of over 1,300 parliament members from 111 countries around the world. It is currently working on advancing democracy, sustainable development and population, the empowerment of women, economic reform, international law and peace-keeping.

The goal of PGA’s Sustainable Development and Population (SDP) Programme is to galvanize leadership at the international and national levels to meet the pressing concerns of sustainable development and population. In order to meet this goal, PGA mobilizes and assists parliamentarians to create a favorable environment for global sustainable development through the development of effective reproductive health and population-related policies and programs. Most recently, the Sustainable Development and Population Programme has been involved in raising awareness among legislators in South Asia, including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, about the threat of HIV/AIDS and preventive measures and policies available to governments.

This is an unpaid internship position based in New York City. Approximately 20 hours per week time commitment is preferred.

Position Description:
• Intern will work under the direction of the Programme Officer
• Will assist in the preparation of reports including transcribing conference tapes and research on key issues
• Create a database of key parliamentary contacts and experts on HIV/AIDS
• Assist the Sustainable Development and Population Programme in outreach to Members of Parliament which includes communicating with parliamentarians via email and telephone in regards to participating in upcoming conferences
• Assist in organizing travel logistics for participants to conferences
• Reasearch daily current events pertaining to international population and health issues.
• Emphasis on administrative tasks, including faxing, phone calls, emailing, and filing
• Assist in preparatory work for upcoming events


• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Must be detail-oriented
• Preferred knowledge/interest in sexual reproductive health, population, and HIV/AIDS
• Willing to work as a team player.
