Check out this conference happening April 27th-29th!

Local Solutions to the Energy Dilemma

Over 40 leading national and local experts in energy, agriculture, economics, engineering, geology, politics, and sustainability will gather during the final week of April to address the local impact of fuel depletion and what we can do about it. Peak Oil NYC, Local Energy Solutions LLC, and the Five Boroughs Institute will host the conference at two locations in Midtown Manhattan: on Thursday at the 750 seat Community Church on East 35th Street and on Friday and Saturday at the Manhattan Center’s 1,200 seat Grand Ballroom on West 34th Street. The conference is intended to increase public awareness and to encourage government, business and civic organizations to begin strategic planning to adapt to permanently increasing energy prices. There will be panels on transportation, energy conservation, renewable energy, and expansion of regional agriculture. A highlight of the conference will be a screening of “The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil,” an inspiring documentary about how the Cuban people responded to a national energy crisis.

Renewable energy sessions include:

Thursday, 2:45 – Sustainable Buildings
Thursday, 4:00 – Alternative Transportation

Friday, 2:45 – On-Site Energy Generation (small wind and solar)

Saturday, 2:45 – The Future of Renewable Energy Generation

Saturday, 5 – Steven Strong presents “Sunlight is Life”

Admission to the conference is available for 1, 2 and 3 days, with professional, low-income, student, and group rates.

You can read the report “Preparing NYC for the Coming Energy Crisis”, which explains why our economy is at growing risk for fuel price increases and suggests practical ways the City can respond. Many of the experts who will be at the conference are cited in the report, so you can get a taste of the richness of thought that will be available.
